In Full Bloom, The Way of the Magical Woman
SAT MARCH 20TH, 6:00PM
To celebrate Women’s History Month, the “Walking in this World Artist Way Group” which meets at the Arts Society of Kingston (ASK) every second Saturday at 10 a.m., is sponsoring a fundraiser for ASK. “We will be honoring women throughout history with ritual, performance, an art exhibition and raffle.” Said Cyndy DiBeneditto, A.K.A. Ditto, the group organizer.
“In Full Bloom: The Way of the Magical Woman,” will be held March 20th, 6 p.m. at the Arts Society of Kingston, 97 Broadway, Kingston. The suggested donation will be $10. All are welcome.
The Saturday group started when Cyndy DiBeneditto and Jacquie Harding completed a workshop with Julia Cameron at the Omega Institute. The point of the workshop was to help creative people reach their potential and enjoy a creative life.
They were so inspired by Cameron’s Artist Way that they wanted to integrate the principles into their daily lives. Using Julia’s paradigm of cluster grouping, they established a monthly gathering of women artists. The purpose of the group is to provide a safe environment for the expression of each woman’s creativity in her own way and time.
In the monthly meetings, women share their creative inspirations, their progress in creative recovery, the obstacles they encounter and how these are overcome. A space is created for each woman to speak without interruption and experience the full attention of the group. An excerpt from Cameron’s book is shared and commented on by each woman.
“We have a ‘show and tell’ where each woman, if she chooses, brings her creation to share. This may include showing a piece of art, playing music, reading a short story or poem, or even, a dish they’ve concocted. We are open to whatever the woman has felt inspired to create,” Ditto said.
Ditto continued: “We are excited about this event. It gives us a chance to share our creativity, as well as support ASK. ASK has become quite an important part of our creative community.”
The fundraiser will provide something for everyone, from art, music and poetry to drumming, ritual and prose.
