Passion for Pastels, this October at ASK (Art Society of Kingston), will feature recent work by Elaine Ralston and Pat Kelly. Both artists are drawn to the beauty and moods of the Hudson Valley landscape, and find the versatility of the pastel palette enables the freedom to achieve the maximum effects. Bold, brilliant colors, or their subtle overlap, allow for paintings to sing or achieve soft luminosity. The show will feature landscapes, as well as a variety of other subject matters.
Additionally, Elaine is drawn to the livingness of the natural world in the forms of fruits, vegetables, and the delicacy of flowers. Her interaction with the energy radiating from their rich colors, along with the play of light and shadow in real life, inspires her to create vibrant still lifes.
Pat is inspired by the gestures, juxtaposition, and vitality of animals and figures in motion. She leans toward narrative compositions which combine these elements, dramatizing the scenes through a close attention to value, light, and shadow.
Both artists have competed and been juried into National and Regional Shows.
The exhibit will be up from Oct 5th to Oct 26th. The artist reception will be held on Oct 5 from 5 – 8pm at ASK.
