ASK is pleased to welcome back Classical Guitarist Stanley Alexandrowicz for a program of Virtuoso Romantic Showpieces by J.K. Mertz and Johann Dubez, and Contemporary Masterpieces by Václav Kučera, Witold Lutosławski, and Maestro Robert W. Butts.
As a special tribute, we will pay homage to the late Czech composer (and friend of Dr. Alexandrowicz) Maestro Václav Kučera on the occasion of his 90th Birthday (1929-2017). Stanley will perform Maestro Butts’ “Tombeau in Memoriam— Václav Kučera” (written on commission after hearing of the great Czech composer’s passing), and the powerful concert-cycle “Diario—Omaggio a Che Guevara” by Kučera himself. Witold Lutosławski’s magical “Folk-melodies” present Poland’s greatest 20th Century composer at his lyrical best!
Virtuoso showpieces by two of the 19th Century’s greatest composer-guitarists (J.K. Mertz and Johann Dubez) will be featured on the opening portion of the recital, and Maestro Butts’ world famous “Early Morning Suite” (dedicated to Alexandrowicz) will certainly enchant the audience in its Neo-Baroque counter-point, lyricism, and virtuosity!
